Major Lucy Smith

Major Smith commissioned into the Adjutant General’s Corps (Staff and Personnel Support Branch) in 1997. Her first 8 years of service was at regimental duty as an AGC (SPS) Detachment Commander and a Regimental Administrative Officer with 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment and 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment serving in Cyprus, Northern Ireland and various UK bases. During this time in 2003 she attended Army Junior Division, Junior Command Staff College.

On promotion to Major in 2004 she took up her initial grade 2 appointment as the Deputy Chief of Staff and subsequently became the Chief of Staff for the Defence Food Services School She was responsible for the move of the school from Aldershot to Worthy Down under Project ALLENBY CONNAUGHT. Her sub unit command appointment was as SO2 Staff and Personnel Support 12 Mechanised Brigade where she deployed as part of Task Force Helmand on Op HERRICK 6 and prepared for a deployment on Op TELIC 14 which became the withdrawal from Iraq – Op BROCKDALE.

On completion of this tour in August 2009 she was selected to command B Company at the Staff and Personnel Support Training School (SPSTS) at Worthy Down. She was responsible for AGC (SPS) officer training and 8 other technical phase 3 courses including the All Arms Adjutant’s Course. She also acted as the course officer for the 10 week long Regimental Administrative Officers Course training up to 45 Captains per year.

In June 2011 she was assigned to the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency (SPVA) based in Gosport where she was employed as the deputy project manager on the JPA Management Information (MI) Improvement Project (OBIEE+). This project has replaced the current MI tool Discoverer with Oracle based application called OBIEE+.

In April 2012 Major Smith deployed to Afghanistan as the SO2 J5 RiP, HQ JFSp(A) planning and executing the Op HERRICK 16/17 RiP. On completion of the tour in November 2012 she returned to SPVA as the Process Lead for mobilisation and was instrumental in the Technical Refresh of JPA in September 2013.

In September 2013 Major Smith assumed the appointment of 2IC of the Personnel Administartion Trainimng Wing (formerly SPSTS), at Worthy Down. She was the training manger for the wing and also acted as the PATW lead for PROJECT WELLESLEY which sees a number of DCLPA assets move from Deepcut to Worthy Down.
