Lieutenant Colonel MJ Brown Army Air Corps – Commanding Officer 6 Regt AAC


Lt Col Marcus Brown was commissioned into The Army Air Corps in 1997. He spent six months attached to the 2nd Battalion, The Light Infantry as a Platoon Commander in Northern Ireland before completing his Army Pilot’s Course in 1999.  In his early flying career he served at 9 Regiment AAC as a Lynx Pilot, Flight Commander, Sqn 2IC and Sqn Ops Officer.  In 2008 he commanded the independent 3 Flight AAC in Scotland flying Gazelle and in 2009 converted to Apache prior to command of 664 Sqn AAC 2010/12. 

Away from the cockpit he served as 9 Regiment Ops Officer during the introduction to service of the Attack Helicopter in 2003/5.  He commanded the AAC Public Duties Sqn at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Tower of London in 2008 and was second in command 3 Regt AAC 2012 to 2014. Staff appointments have been as a Requirements Manager for DEC CCII 2006/8 and as SO1 Future Commitments in HQ Joint Helicopter Command 2015/6. He attended Intermediate Command and Staff College in 2005/6 and the Advanced Command and Staff Course in 2014/5. 

Operational tours have included Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Libya and Afghanistan. Lt Col Brown assumed command of 6 Regiment Army Air Corps on 9 Dec 2016. 

Lt Col Brown is married to Sally, a Commercial Property Solicitor. They have three children: Hatty, Darcey and Cammie. In his spare time he enjoys walking, swimming, sailing, diving, gardening, electronics and DIY.
