209th (The Manchester) Battery

209th (Manchester & St Helens) Battery

The battery is based in Manchester in Belle Vue Street, Gorton.

The Manchester Artillery was first raised in 1804 during the Napoleonic Wars as the Heaton Artillery Volunteers.

During the Great War The Manchester Artillery raised two Field Artillery Brigades and during the Second World War raised two Field Artillery Regiments.  With the reforming of the Territorial Army in 1947,  the Manchester Artillery reformed as 252 Field Regiment R.A. (The Manchester Artillery) T.A., joining 103rd Regiment R.A. in 1967.

It was for a number of years split into two troops one in St Helens and the other in Manchester, as a result of FR202 the battery is now back to its home city.
