The Royal Wessex Yeomanry

As part of the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) The Royal Wessex Yeomanry is the South West of England's only Yeomanry regiment. The Royal Wessex Yeomanry has five squadrons and has Army Reserve centres in the counties of Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

The Royal Wessex Yeomanry is the nation's Armoured Reserve Regiment, which, along with the Queen's Royal Hussars, King's Royal Hussars and Royal Tank Regiment, provides the armoured element to the Army's Reaction Force.

Our role is to provide fully trained tank crews and highly skilled officers and soldiers in support of the Regular Army on exercise and operations.

Y (Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry) Squadron is based in Swindon, Wiltshire.

The Squadrons trains and provides Challenger 2 Crewmen in support of Regular Regiments of The Royal Armoured Corps.

Challenger 2 is the British Army's main battle tank. It is based on the Challenger 1 tank and served with distinction on operations in the Gulf War and the Balkans.
