As part of a wider restructuring programme outlined in the Army 2020 Review, the Queen’s Royal Lancers amalgamated with the 9th/12th Royal Lancers in May 2015. The new Regiment formed is called ‘The Royal Lancers’, and is part of 12th Armoured Infantry Brigade and is based in Catterick, North Yorkshire.

Both antecedent Regiments shared much common heritage having frequently fought together and attained 18 of the same Battle Honours, some 50 in total including 27 VC winners. The new Regiment is now the home for all the Lancers in the British Army.

Royal Lancers amalgamation

The Royal Lancers will continue to develop the fine heritage started by its antecedent regiments, seeking excellence in all that it does, whether on the battlefield or sports pitch.
