Operations and overseas deployments

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards has a rich history of deployment. Soldiers from the regiment have regularly deployed on operations or on overseas training.

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' latest deployment was on Operation HERRICK 19 in Kabul, from August 2013-February 2014. This was the Regiment’s third deployment to Afghanistan having previously deployed on HERRICK 8 (2008) and HERRICK 14 (2011).

During HERRICK 19, the Regiment fulfilled the role of the Kabul Support Unit – with the Headquarters assuming control of British Forces within the Afghan capital and the two Squadrons providing security for British and NATO forces in the high threat environment.

Overseas deployments

The Regiment has commitments across the globe, in the last year soldiers participated in training and sent advisory teams to the UAE, Oman, Nigeria, Uganda, Jordan and Canada. B Squadron deployed on an exercise for a month to Cyprus and the regiment is deploying more units on training exercises to the Middle East in the new year.
