Queen's University Officers’ Training Corps is open to all students, over 18 years old, in tertiary education across Northern Ireland (QUB, UU and all Regional Colleges).   As a result, Queen's UOTC reflects the cultural diversity of students within Northern Ireland, as well as being one of the best student clubs.

About Us

Queen's UOTC offers first class opportunities for leadership development, earning valuable qualifications, getting paid a daily wage, gaining life experience, keeping fit and having fun through military training, adventurous outdoor pursuits and social activities.  Some of the training can be challenging, but ultimately very rewarding.

Many of our ‘Officer Cadets’ view the UOTC as a means of obtaining skills that will be valuable in a range of civilian professions, and as such we are not just for those with longer-term interest in a career with the military.  Officer Cadets who study at Queen's University attain their ‘Degree Plus’ qualification and Officer Cadets who attend the University of Ulster qualify for the ‘Ulster Edge’ award by completing the modular training programme that we deliver at Queen’s UOTC.  In addition to these supplementary university degree awards; the training we deliver to Officer Cadets is accredited directly to Leadership and Management – Level 5 Awards certified by both the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM); and we are also a Directly Licenced Centre for the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme at Gold Level.

Typically, in a standard academic year we meet on Wednesday evenings (7pm – 9pm) during term time with on average one or two weekends away a month from October to March.  We then take a break in the months April and May to allow students to focus on their end of year exams before regrouping for our annual 2 week camp in June.

Queen’s UOTC is geared towards student life and the demands of the academic year.  The educational curriculum requirements of students are fully understood and accommodated for during your time in the UOTC.

Queen’s UOTC is part of the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Group – a globally recognised centre of excellence for leadership development.

Our recruiting period runs every year throughout ‘Freshers’ in September and October and then again during ‘Re-Freshers’ at the end of January.  Over these periods we have a number of open nights, fresher's events and recruiting evenings where you can come along and gain an insight into life in the UOTC and what it is possible for you to get up to in your time here.
