Training for the Regiment

As well as being able to offer our trained officers and soldiers opportunities to take part in a huge range of life-changing experiences that take place in the UK and abroad, we also offer our members the unique opportunity to train on some of the best armoured fighting vehicles in the world such as the British Army's Challenger 2 main battle tank.

Training that is not only fun and exciting but is also rewarding. No matter what Arm of the Army you are looking to join all potential recruits have to complete a period of basic training before moving on to role-specific training.

For those potential recruits looking to join The Royal Wessex Yeomanry what this means is; learning how to handle and fire a rifle (your personal weapon), how to administer first aid to a casualty, learning drill, learning how to look after yourself when operating under field conditions, map reading and navigation skills, personal fitness and a lot more.

All soldiers in The Royal Wessex Yeomanry need to drive, so if you haven't as yet obtained your driving licence, we can help.

Phase 1 Training

All Army Reserve soldiers complete basic or Initial Training. Initial Soldier Training is conducted at a number of sites around the country.

Phase 2 Training

The Armour Centre in Bovington, Dorset, is the British Army’s centre of excellence for training in the core skills of armoured warfare.
