Civilian to Soldier

HQ ITG

Initial (Phase 1) training turns civilian recruits into partly-trained soldiers.

The "Civilian to Soldier" video series looks at Phase 1 training in detail. You can watch it on YouTube by clicking on the link on the right.

Phase 1 training includes the Common Military Syllabus (Recruits) (CMS(R)) which lasts for 14 weeks. It produces fit, motivated individuals capable of carrying out local protection tasks in any operational environment. Those who pass are fully prepared to embark on the next phase of their Army training.

Included are:

Skill At Arms

Learning to use a wide range of arms is a key requirement to becoming a trained soldier.

Physical Training

The most fundamental part of The Training. A fit soldier is a capable soldier.

Adventure Training

All adventure training takes place at the Soldier Development Wing (SDW) at Brecon.

Fieldcraft

Putting what has been learnt into practise. Fieldcraft is a vital element of The Training.

Sports and Fun

It's not all hard work! There is plenty of opportunity to play sports and have fun.

Education

Education can be fun too ...and we make sure that recruits get their fair share.

First Aid

Learning first aid skills can mean the difference between life and death out in the field.

CBRN

Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence. Preparing our recruits for future events.
