Support Weapons School, Warminster

Support weapon training in progress at Warminster

"The British Army has an armoury of powerful and versatile support weaponry, from grenades to heavy machine guns - tools for the soldier's task of taking and holding ground."

The Support Weapons School's (SWS) mission is to provide trained officers and soldiers in order to meet the operational requirements of the Army.

Whilst the majority of students at the school are from across the Infantry, the SWS trains personnel from other arms and services. Over the past few years, students from the Royal Armoured Corps, Royal Marines and RAF Regiment, as well as a number of overseas students, have trained on support weapons at SWS.

SWS forms part of the School of Infantry. It is is based at the Land Warfare Centre in Warminster and comprises 3 training Divisions; Mortar Division, Fire Support Group (FSG) Division and Communications Information Systems (CIS) Division.

The majority of SWS courses are promotion-qualifying career courses and as such, all 3 divisions train command, control and leadership at all levels in all specialities.
