Prospectus
Your local Army Careers Information Office should be able to provide you with a prospectus. Find the Office nearest to you.

Applying to Join
To apply, visit your local Army Careers Information Office. Online applications can also be submitted using this link. When you enter your details there is a box to tick under the "Career and Interests" section that lets you specify interest in the AFCH.

Application Process
There are several stages to the application/selection process which take a few months, so you are advised to apply around 9 months in advance if possible.

Age Requirements
You must be at least 15 years and 7 months to apply to join the Army. Prior to reaching that age you can go to an Army Careers Information Office with a parent to make enquiries. The earliest you can be enlisted in the September at age 16, after GCSE exams. Those training at AFCH have to be aged between 16 years and 2 months and 17 years and 1 month of age. This ensures that they are at least 17 and a half by the end of their Phase 2 training, so that they can join in all of their Regiment's activities.

Nationality Requirements
The nationality requirements for AFCH are the same as those for the wider British Army. They can be found here.

Pay
Following deductions for food, accommodation and other sundries a typical Junior Soldier receives approximately £780 per month after tax.

Open Days
Prospective Junior Soldiers and their parents/guardians will be invited to an open day at AFCH approximately 6 weeks before the start of their course. The 2010 dates are 24 July (for September intake) and 13 November (for January 2011 intake.) These open days are for Junior Soldiers who have already have been offered a place at AFCH - there are no public open days.

What if it's not for me?
The usual initial period that each Junior Soldier signs up for is 4 years, but there is a period of 6 months when they can withdraw their notice to serve and leave outright. This is known as "Discharge As Of Right." They may also choose to leave during their training, or if parental consent is removed.
