Applying to Join
To apply, visit your local Army Careers Information Office. Online applications can also be submitted using this link. When you enter your details there is a box to tick under the "Career and Interests" section that lets you specify interest in the AFCH.

Application Process
There are many stages to the application/selection process which can take several months, so you are advised to apply around 9 months in advance if possible.

Qualifications Needed
The qualifications needed to train at the Army Foundation College are dependent upon the job role you are training for, each job has different requirements. Roles in the Infantry have no requirements whilst more technical jobs in REME will need passes in various subjects. The Army’s Role Finder website details the requirements for all available jobs.

Age Requirements
You must be at least 15 years and 7 months to apply to join the Army. Prior to reaching that age you can go to an Army Careers Information Office with a parent to make enquiries. The earliest you can be enlisted in the September at age 16, after GCSE exams. Those training at AFCH have to be aged between 16 years and 17 years and 5 months of age upon commencement of training. This ensures that they are at least 17 and a half by the end of their Phase 2 training, so that they can join in all of their Regiment's activities (except operational deployment).

Nationality Requirements
The nationality requirements for AFCH are the same as those for the wider British Army. They can be found here.

Pay
Following deductions for food, accommodation and other sundries a typical Junior Soldier receives approximately £800 per month after tax, after 6 months of service this rises to approximately £1000 per month. There are no up-front costs (other than the items on the kit list) or tuition-style fees to pay to train with us.

Open Days
Prospective Junior Soldiers and their parents/guardians will be invited, via the Careers Offices, to an open day at AFCH approximately 6-8 weeks before the start of their course. The 2012 dates are 7th July (for September 2012 intake) and 1st December (for January 2013 intake), these open days are for Junior Soldiers who have already have been offered a place at AFCH or are likely to be offered a place imminently.

What if it's not for me?
Junior Soldiers can leave the Army during training at the Army Foundation College if that is what they choose. Upon reaching 18 years old the usual sign up period for is 4 years, any time served under the age of 18 does not count towards this 4 years.
