Welfare
Not knowing anyone in an unfamiliar place can be an unhappy experience - especially for a young person away from home for the first time.
While there are lots of other people in a similar position at the Army Foundation College, and most find it easy to settle in and make new friends, for those who need someone to talk to, the following are available:
Welfare Officers
There are several Welfare Officers at the Army Foundation College. They are responsible for the support, assistance and welfare advice given to all Junior Soldiers, as well as permanent staff and their dependants. When dealing with concerns they are able to direct personnel to the right advice and information.
A duty Unit Welfare Officer is contactable 24 hours a day.
The welfare of Junior Soldiers is extremely important to all staff at the Army Foundation College.
WRVS
WRVS staff offer support in a relaxed, social environment away from the military regime. They provide Junior Soldiers with advice, guidance, sympathy and practical support with any problems they may be having.
The WRVS centre is well-equipped: there's an internet suite, console room (XBOX, PS3 etc), a TV lounge, table tennis and darts as well as tea and coffee facilities. Appointments are not needed.
The building also houses the PRI shop, which sells all kind of military equipment and accessories, a barber shop, pizzeria and a relaxation area equipped with pool tables, TVs and even an arcade!
Faith
There is a large, modern Church at the Army Foundation College which is there for all those who want to practice their faith, Christian or otherwise.
If Junior Soldiers have any problems or concerns, Chaplains are there to listen and assist where possible. Chaplaincy support is confidential and outside of the military Chain of Command.
