Getting Promotion

Education for your military career involves the development of your intellectual capacity, military attitudes and general supporting knowledge.  This education is a fundamental career requirement and will be delivered at the beginning of each career stage. The Officer Career Development (OCD) programme develops leadership and management skills and concentrates on the development of professional military knowledge both in barracks and on operations.As an Officer you will begin your career as a Second Lieutenant, moving up as you are promoted.

Getting Qualified

The Army is committed to ensuring that all serving personnel have opportunities to continue their personal development throughout their Army careers.  There is a wide range of courses available to serving personnel and they are at different education and skills' levels, from basic computer to distance learning degrees.

Personal development is a lifelong process and does not stop when serving personnel are posted abroad.  There are Army Education Centres (AECs) in different locations worldwide, including Theatre Education Centres (TECs) in Iraq and Afghanistan.  All AECs have Education staff on hand to offer help and guidance.

Accreditation

The gaining of qualifications is an on-going process that spans your whole career. Many of the Army qualifications that can be gained are matched to civilian qualifications (or accredited), improving your prospects when leaving the Army. Read more on Accreditation.
