3 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment

3 RSME Regt delivers Phase 2a and Phase 3 training for Sappers and junior non-commissioned officers of the Corps of Royal Engineers.

3 RSME Regt trains approximately 700 class 3 Military Engineers and 1200 Class 1 Military Engineers and Junior Commanders each training year. Every Sapper who joins the Corps of Royal Engineers will come to 3 RSME Regt after completing their Phase 1 training.

Military Engineers are trained in functional skills, demolitions, bridging, watermanship, water supply, force protection, basic field engineering and mine warfare. All these are taught on the 10 week Class 3 course and then honed during the Class 1 course. During their career, when a Sapper is selected for promotion to LCpl or Cpl, they will return to 3 RSME Regt to conduct leadership and management training.

Gibraltar Barracks is furnished with a great range of sporting and leisure facilities including a swimming pool, clay pigeon range and access to a sailing centre. As the home of Combat Engineering 3 RSME Regt also hosts a lot of Corps sports events including cross country and mountain bike racing on the adjacent training areas. 3 RSME Regt strongly encourages trainees to participate in sport and adventurous training where time allows.

Gibraltar Barracks is included in the Public Private Partnership with Holdfast Training Services. This partnership will aid Minley maintain itself as a focal point for the Corps of Royal Engineers until at least 2038.

The partnership sees Holdfast providing training support to 3 RSME Regt and ensures that the facilities at Minley are maintained and updated. There has been investment in the gym and trainee’s accommodation, and an ongoing project to roll out Wi-Fi across the whole site.

Mission: 3 RSME Regt is to deliver well trained and motivated Military Engineers in order to meet the operational requirements of Defence.
