Shopping and leisure

Junior Soldiers are kept busy, but they also get time to relax and unwind. They have free evenings when they are not tasked with duties or skills activities. At weekends, when not in training, they are free to go into town (or home if it is not too far away).

Additionally, a Spar shop is available on site, which is open 08:30 to 22:00hrs, seven days a week. It offers a full range of products and services, including:

  • food and snacks
  • toiletries and personal care products
  • newspapers and magazines
  • books
  • electrical items
  • DVDs and CDs
  • mobile phone top-ups
  • cash machine

Outside these hours, vending machines are available.

There’s also a student leisure club where Junior Soldiers can get fast food, watch TV, play the latest videogames and use internet-connected PCs to send e-mails and access Facebook etc.

Junior Soldiers can have mobile phones while at AFC Harrogate, but they may only be used when the training day has finished.
