Facilities

8 Trg Bn REME is situated within an Army camp in Lyneham that has recently had a considerable amount of refurbishment and new buildings. The camp therefore has a lot to offer that will cater for your needs.

Sports & Gymnasium

During your time at 8 Trg Bn REME you will have the opportunity to join a wide range of teams to participate in a multitude of sports and activities. All equipment and instruction is provided free of charge and is an ideal way to introduce yourself to an activity you may not have had the opportunity to try before. Activities include:

Medical facilities

The Medical and Dental Centre within the Army camp at Lyneham is run by dedicated medical staff and has all the facilities you would expect to find in a NHS medical centre or dental practice. These facilities are available to all military staff.

Shopping & leisure

The shopping and leisure facility within the Army camp at Lyneham has a lot to offer all soldiers and officers posted to the camp or attending a training course.

There is a shop which sells a wide variety of products including food, drinks, toiletries, and newspapers – everything you would expect from a local store.

There is also a café equipped with seating area which sells a variety of snacks and beverages.

The hairdresser offering styles to suit everyone.

An internet suite to allow access to emails, general browsing or online shopping.

A TV room which shows a variety of sports or music/entertainment channels, and a games area equipped with pool tables and table tennis.

Education facilities

The library contains a full range of course and reference items to support the training in mechanical engineering, aeronautic engineering and electronics engineering as well as general education and computer technology. It also contains military reference books, management course books, military DVDs, leaflets & pamphlets to support training and personal development.

The library provides desks for quiet study and an area with multimedia computers, printers, graphic scanners, photocopiers and internet facilities. It also provides technical journals and daily newspapers. Other services offered by the Library include access to resources from the Army Library Service; these include military references and resources, fiction and non fiction books, personal development books, languages, audio books, CD-ROMs, DVDs and military history (all free of charge).

There is also a book ordering service from other libraries or through Army Library and Information Services (ALIS) Online on Armynet (items can be delivered directly to you at your Unit)
