Coordination of Military Assistance to Civilian Authorities during the Gloucester floods in 2007

Headquarters 43 (Wessex) Brigade is commanded by 4th Division in Aldershot which is a regional division responsible for the regional affairs for the south of England.  The Brigade area covers the 7 counties of Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.  This includes the Channel Islands to the South and Isles of Scilly to the West.  The largest distance between the most south western and north eastern points in the Brigade area is 208 miles.

HQ 43 (Wx) Bde is to deliver military capability, recruiting, Armed Forces in Society(AFiS) activity and influence infrastructure support in order to meet the operational commitment of units in the South West of England.  This is achieved by training and deploying in support of UK Operations or provide administrative support to deployed personnel (and their families).   Furthermore by nurturing and educating the population of the South West so that better understanding of the Army is gained by holding a series of presentation included in the AFiS plan which will have an opportunity to recruit for both Territorial Army and the Regular Army.
