11th Infantry Brigade & HQ South East

11th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters South East is one of the Army’s 7 Adaptable Force Brigades comprising of Regular and Reserve units. The Brigade is the Army regional point of contact for the 8 counties of the South East of England.

 

It is part of the Army’s 'Adaptable Force' meaning it has units under its command delivering operational effect and regional responsibilities across the South East of England.

The brigade has three regular battalions under its command, as well as responsibility for British Forces Brunei. It covers one of the most complex and densely populated regions in the UK comprising some 26,000 military personnel gathered across 35 garrisons and stations.

It also directly commands over 13,000 cadets as well as the Central Reserves Headquarters (CRHQ) of the Adjutants General Corps (AGC) based in Worthy Down.

The headquarters is based at Roebuck House in Aldershot.

Recent History

11thInfantry Brigade and Headquarters South East is a new formation which was first formed on 1 Aug 2014 and fully stood up on 4 Dec 14. It is part of the Army’s ‘Adaptable Force’ meaning that it has units under command delivering operational effect (this is the 11th Infantry Brigade part of the title), and Regional responsibilities (such as UK Engagement, Firm-Base, Transition, Cadets, etc.) across the South East of England (hence the HQ South East).  It also has a responsibility for Defence Engagement in the South East of the world, i.e. Philippines, Indonesia, etc.

The headquarters of the new 11th Infantry Brigade and HQ South East is based in Aldershot and has four regular battalions (1RGR, 2RGR, two foot guards battalions on rotation from a pool of 1 Irish Guards, 1 Coldstream Guards, 1 Welsh Guards, 1 Grenadier Guards, 1 Scots Guards) and two reserve battalions (The London Regiment and 3 Royal Welsh) under command, as well as responsibility for British Forces Brunei.

In its Regional guise, it has been formed from the merger of two former Regional Brigades, 145 (South) Brigade (covering the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight), and 2 (South East) Brigade (covering the counties of Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex and Kent). These brigades were disbanded on 31 Jul 14 and 4 Dec 14 respectively.
