Soldiers of the Royal Anglian Regiment training in Belize

2 (South East) Brigade's key responsibility is to the Commander Land Forces in supporting the Army's operations wherever they may be in the world.

Additionally, it has the unique responsibility for the provision of the Brunei Garrison which has one of the Army's two Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR) Battalions at its core.

In recent years the Brigade has been heavily engaged in exercises in Belize, Kenya and New Zealand as well as UK. Most recently 2 (South East) Brigade was engaged in the preparation and running of the 1st Battalion RGR's pre-deployment training in Brunei in the form of Exercise COMMANDO RAJAH.

This exercise also included elements of 40 Commando Royal Marines and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces supported by Air Forces from the USA and Netherlands. The purpose of the exercise was to help prepare 1 RGR for their forthcoming tour in Afghanistan.

The Brigade's regional focus is the support to current operations through the provision of individuals and the continued training of our two Territorial Army Battalions, 3rd Battalion Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment and 103 Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Over the past year 3 PWRR have provided over 40 Territorial Army volunteers to operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and there are currently 2 soldiers from 3 PWRR and 5 from 103 Battalion REME deployed in Afghanistan. This underlines the TA's ongoing and unswerving commitment to augment the Regular Army when asked.
