Crimean War

Crimean Cavalry Letters edited by Glenn Fisher

Review by Dr Rodney Atwood, military historian

THREE of the four young officers whose letters are published in this fascinating volume charged the Russians at Balaklava with the Light Brigade. The fourth charged earlier the same day with the Heavy Brigade. All four suffered with Raglan’s army outside Sevastopol, and their forthright accounts tell of much that went wrong, but also of courage, endurance and boredom.

Glenn Fisher’s introduction and notes are excellent. Membership of the Army Records Society entitles you to one or more books of this standard annually and to purchase past volumes.
