Aden Emergency

Aden InsurgencyAden Insurgency: The Savage War in Yemen 1962-67 by Jonathan Walker

Review by Maj Mike Peters, AAC

IT never does any harm to have a quick look back through a regions military history before venturing into it on a new foray. This is a timely re-print of an excellent account of the British Army’s counter-insurgency campaign in Southern Arabia.

This is an authorative commentary on an intense mission that tested British military capability in mountainous terrain, the open desert and most demanding of all, in a close urban environment.

A topical read packed with valuable lessons from Britain’s last colonial war.
