INTRODUCTION

Over the past 10 years Royal Signals Corps Cross Country has through the investment of the Corps, the commitment and training enthusiasm of the runners and organization of the Team Managers dominated the Inter Corps male and female individual and team competition with some of our very best going on to represent the Army and Great Britain.

MISSION
Royal Signals Cross Country has one clear objective; that the male and female teams dominate the Inter Corps Championships. This is delivered by combining a number of key activities throughout the training and competitive season:

a. Two training camps to identify and prepare Corps level runners.

b. Inter Unit Cross Country Champs to identify new running talent.

c. The strongest Corps Male and Female Team to dominate the Inter Corps Championship - in both the UK and Germany.

d. Promotion of Corps athletes during the Inter Services selection process.

AIM
The Royal Signals Cross Country Team members prepare, train and compete in all of the Division, Army and Inter Corps Championships in order to meet the Team Mission. In addition, the team members do compete in their local civilian cross country league and ADHOCdistance road and multi-terrain races as organised. The aims of the team organizers and managers are:

a. Short Term. To generate further interest and enthusiasm in the sport through continuing Corps subsidised KESWICK RUNNER training camps and promotion of the sport through the Inter Unit Championships. This will identify a nucleus of male and female runners that will form the heart of the Team squad. Concurrently, place continued emphasis on consistency of training in Unit and participation in civilian club training sessions and races to inspire individual to progress towards a Corps standard. All squad members should naturally filter in to the Athletics season to further represent their Corps in all middle distance track events.

b. Medium Term. From the identified squad a delegation of team responsibility will allow for an organised and focused team ethos; inclusive will be male and female team managers, training and coaching staff, forecast and events supervisor, civilian club affiliation member, kit and equipment member, travel and messing member, web site editor etc. Regular training activities such as Squad Training weekends inclusive of the already organised training camps will bring further squad cohesion. Add formed personal programmes that will focus the athlete to train will combine to produce a competitive edge and 'want to win'

c. Long Term. Participation in military and civilian organised races and events will determine how successful the respective male/female teams and individuals are. It is hopeful that with a well organised short and medium term focus the Royal Signals Cross Country squad will be competitive against their Corps and Combined Services rivals. It is anticipated that more athletes will then progress on to National representative level as we have seen with two of the squad members in past seasons; Cpl Tom Lowe (GB national squad -Duathlon) and Cpl Sophie Morris (GB national squad -indoor 1500m runner.
