UNIT HISTORY

262 Signal Squadron (District) was formed on Cyprus from 15 Signal Regiment on 1 July 1962, to provide communications for the garrison at Dhekalia, and to provide net radio communications for the whole of Cyprus. In the re-organisation of Signals on Cyprus in 1975, it became 262 Signal Squadron (East), with the responsibility for Nicosia, Dhekalia, Ayios Nikolaos and Cape Greco. The (East) designation was dropped on 1 April 1979, and the Squadron was amalgamated into 259 Signal Squadron in 1990.

The Squadron was reformed again, this time in Gutersloh, Germany in 2002 to provide CIS support to HQ 102 Logistic Brigade and was designated 102 Logistic Brigade Headquarters & Signal Squadron (262). Although still not a fully functional Squadron it was deployed to Kuwait in January 2003 in skeleton format along with HQ 102 Log Bde to provide the Joint Force Logistic Component for Operation TELIC. 102 Log Bde HQ & Sig Sqn (262) was declared to have reached it's Full Operating Capability (FOC) at the end of November 2003 on completion of Exercise FORGED HALBERD, a major Brigade exercise.

Since it's reformation it has conducted successfull operational tours including Iraq (Telic VIII) 2006, and individual commitments to Op Herrick (Afghanistan). The squadron is currently undergoing exercise training from Clansman Radio to Bowman Radio, before future deployments to Iraq & Afghanistan 2008.
