47 (Middlesex Yeomanry) Signal Squadron (Volunteers)

Welcome to the home page of 47 (Middlesex Yeomanry) Signal Squadron (Volunteers), we are a communications Squadron with the Squadron Headquarters based at Uxbrigde, we also have a Troop based in Southfields.
Our Role
Our role involves providing Information Communication Systems (ICS) to the emergency services and to the local government in the event of an emergency.
In recent years the Brigade has been involved in the Fireman strikes (OP FRESCO), floods, foot and mouth and the fuel crisis, with soldiers and officers of the Squadron and Regiment being involved in a number of these.
In addition to providing support to the emergency services, the Squadron also supports Military Operations with
the Regular Army.
The Squadron has had two soldiers deploy to the Middle East (OP TELIC and OP HERRICK) within the last two years and many more deployments since the first Gulf War.
47 (Middlesex Yeomanry) Squadron is a very busy unit and constantly training for our role within the Regiment, as well as training soldiers to be able to pass their annual Military Tests.
Communications of various types are the other side to the training but these join hand in hand with nearly everything we carry out here at the Squadron.
Trades
The Squadron can offer the following trades:
- Communications Systems Engineer
- Communications Systems Operator
- Royal Signals Electrician
- Chefs
- Vehicle Mechanic
- Medics
- Military Clerks
Squadron History
In 1938 the unit was re-rolled as mobile divisional signals, as the 1st Cavalry Divisional Signal Regiment (Middlesex Yeomanry).
The Regiment deployed to Palestine, serving in Syria, Iraq, Crete and Tobruk. 47 Signal Squadron is now part of 71st (Yeomanry) Signal Regiment based in Uxbridge, Middlesex. The Squadron lay claim to two of the three VCs gained by Yeomanry units.
Fairly unique in the British Army in that all NCOs wear a crown above their stripes, a throwback to the days when they would escort the 'Widow at Windsor'. To distinguish a Sgt from a SSgt, a SSgt wears four stripes and a crown.
