16th Signal Regiment

A piper leads the Regiment at our homecoming

16th Signal Regiment is based in Javelin Barracks in Germany, close to the border with the Netherlands.  It is a busy, operational unit, working as part of 1 Signal Brigade in support of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps Headquarters.

Role

The Regiment has recently returned from a busy deployment in Afghanistan, and we expect to return there in Feb 2010.

The role of the Regiment is to support the communications requirements of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps Headquarters. This is the largest deployable HQ that the British Army supports, and we work closely with 7 Signal regiment. We use up-to-date computer and networking technology combined with fibre-optic, telephone and satellite communications so that the headquarters can effectively share information between its departments and with the units that it commands.
The Regiment consists of 4 Squadrons: 230 (Malaya), 252 (Hong Kong), 255 (Bahrain) and Support Sqn.
