RHQ & 52 Support Squadron (V)

Due to the restructuring of the Territorial Army (TA) Headquarters Squadron based in Glasgow has now been renamed as 52 Support Squadron (V) and remains under the command of 32 Signal Regiment (V).

Kilmarnock man Sergeant Steven Tinney (30), is a chef with a mission. He is passionate about cooking and is not satisfied with just doing it during the week, he also does it at the weekends.

During the week, Steven is the Catering Manager with The Ayrshire Hospice, whilst at the weekends he is a Territorial Army chef with 32 Signal Regiment (Volunteers).

As Steven himself said, "For me, being in the TA is not just about cooking, although I do enjoy trying out some of my new recipes on the guys at the weekends. The TA also offers a lot more than that. With them, I get to travel. I'm just back from an excellent week of adventure training in France. It was fantastic.

There is also the opportunity to get qualified to drive everything from a motorbike to an articulated lorry. Steve also spent 12 years with the RAF and always thought that when I left, I wouldn't want to go back into uniform. After being out of the RAF for a year, I found that I missed the friendship and the challenge of doing something different in comparison to my civilian job.

I now have the best of both worlds. I love my civilian job as a Catering Manager during the week, but at the weekends, I get to travel all over the UK and abroad, and more importantly get paid to do it."

Located in central Glasgow, the Squadron provides administration to the Regiment, the Regimental Command Post for exercises and training resources throughout the year.

Also based in Glasgow is the Regiments own Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) Light Aid Detachment (LAD) commanded by a TA REME captain. The LAD is responsible for maintaining and repairing the unit's vehicles and equipment, including Land Rovers and the new SA-80 A2 rifle.

To join the TA and become a member of our busy LAD you must first contact the Signal Squadron.

The enlistment procedure is the same for everyone joining the TA, once you have completed your basic soldier training you will then start on your specialist REME training.
