5 (QOOH) Signal Squadron
Banbury based 5th (Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars) Signal Squadron (Volunteers) has recently become a sub-unit of 31 Signal Regiment (Volunteers) with its Headquarters in London. The Squadron role is the provision of National Communications within the United Kingdom in support of National and Local Government in the time of a National Emergency or Disaster. Soldiers from the Squadron have served in the Falklands, Bosnia, Kosovo and both Gulf Wars, in support of the Regular Army.
There are vacancies for Communications Operators, Repair and Maintenance Technicians, Mobile Power Electricians, Catering, Mechanical and Clerical Staff. The Squadron has an establishment of 6 Officers and 70 Soldiers. You will be expected to attend for training on Tuesday evenings, around 8 weekends and a two week training camp/exercise each year for which you will be paid and provided you fulfil all the training obligations ie, shooting, physical, recognition, first aid, Chemical/ biological/radiological and nuclear warfare each year and you will receive a tax free bounty each year.
It's not all work, in 2003, the Squadron spent 10 days on a Winter Ski Training Exercise in Austria. There is also a least one Adventure Training Event out of the 8 weekends training each year.
