200 Signal Squadron

200 sig sqn

Role

The Squadrons role is to provide both static and mobile communications to UK and other Nations' Battlegroups within the Brigade's Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Both military and civilian off-the-shelf equipment was used to ensure that maximum communications coverage could be provided to the troops on the ground.

Training

Regular exercising by the Squadron ensures that it is an operationally effective unit, thus maintaining its soldiers military and trade skills to a high standard. The unit exercises as a Squadron, in support of the Brigade or in support of the Division.

The Squadron location means that most training exercises are carried out in our own back yard, on the Sennelager training area. Recently Exercises tested the Squadron's soldiering skills, with a combination of instruction and revision, highlighting the fact that all within the 200 Signal Squadron are soldiers first.

Welfare

The Squadron provides its single soldiers with good quality accommodation, all within the confines of our own barracks. The blocks consist of one, two or three man rooms, each floor has its own laundry facilities and a kitchen area. The cookhouse is just across the road from the accommodation. The Squadron also has its own well equipped and comfortable bar.

Location

The Squadron is based in Talbot Barracks, within Sennelager Training Centre (Normandy Barracks) complex, near Paderborn. It is located in the North Western region of Germany, approximately one hour thirty minutes south-west of Hannover and one hour east of Dortmund. Paderborn is a vibrant German city with many pubs, clubs and restaurants. It has very good transport links including an airport with daily flights to UK and other destinations.
