48 (City of Birmingham) Signal Squadron (Volunteers)

Members of the Squadron on a recent training weekend

Welcome to 48 (Cities of Birmingham and Coventry) Signal Squadron (V). We have a long history of proudly serving Queen and country; with individual soldiers having served across the globe from home, here in the West Midlands, to the wider UK and from Bosnia to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Squadron has two troops in Birmingham and one in Coventry and our new role is one in support of UK Operations where we can be called upon to provide communications infrastructure in a variety of situations.

Support of military exercises to assisting various public events, from supporting government agencies in environmental crises to aiding the emergency services in the event of a terrorist attack.

We are a friendly bunch but we work hard; communications exercises usually start on a Friday evening and finish on a Sunday afternoon with soldiers working in small teams on shifts.

Military skills exercises often involve sleeping out under canvas and can be physically demanding. There are frequent opportunities for Adventure Training, with half the Squadron having been taught to ski by the Army and many with climbing, kayaking and sailing qualifications.

The Squadron has a lively social calendar with 3 or 4 major functions throughout the year and many smaller ones. We have a great weekend at the Army v Navy rugby match at Twickenham every year and raise large sums for Help for Heroes in the process.

If any of this sounds interesting and you would like to find out more get in touch.

If you wish to visit, please call first to arrange a meeting.
