Support Squadron
Support Squadron (Sp Sqn) provides critical life support functions in order to enable the 3 Communication Squadron (Comms Sqns) within 2 Signal Regiment to deploy and carry out their roles effectively.
At any one time, personnel from Sp Sqn are deployed with the Comms Sqns around the world as well as maintain elements at high readiness.
Role
Squadron Headquarters provides the command function for the Squadron and is responsible for the organisation of all aspects of normal daily routine which includes, administration, welfare, discipline and the training of all soldiers within the Squadron.
Key personalities include the Officer Commanding (OC), the Unit Welfare Officer and the Squadron Sergeant Major.
Key capabilities of Sp Sqn are:
- Administration: Regimental Administration Office
- Supply: Quartermaster (A) and Quartermaster (T)
- Transport: Regimental Motor Transport Department
- Equipment Support: Light Aid Detachment
- Engineering Support: Technical Engineering Support Troop
- Catering (and rations): Catering Department
- Security: Guardroom
- Medical: Medical/Dental Centre
- Training: Training Wing and Gymnasium
- Operations: Operations Cell
Recent and Planned Activity
Sp Sqn maintains a strong focus on current and planned operations. Personnel from Sp Sqn are currently deployed on Operations around the world including USA, CANADA, FALKLAND ISLANDS and KENYA.
The Sqn also deploys a number of elements in support of Field Sqn exercises and is constantly conducting PDT for the Regiment in support of its tasks
Planned exercises include a deployment to CYPRUS on EX LION SUN and various Regimental level and Bde exercises at the end of the year.
Sp Sqn lives up to the motto of 'work hard and play hard'.
Sqn personnel have maximised opportunities for sport and Adventure Training (AT). Participation is encouraged in key events such
as the LANYARD TROPHY, RACE THE SUN, TRAIL WALKER, CAMBRIAN PATROL and many more.
Future AT and sports events are continually being organised. The Sqn Forecast of Events includes a significant amount of personnel participating in AT on EX LION SUN, the Regimental AT package at the end July and a number of level 3 AT expeditions.
