16th Signal Regiment

The Regiment is one of five Multi-Role Signal Regiments and is responsible for the delivery of information and communications services (ICS) to 12 Armoured Infantry Brigade and other assigned headquarters. This encompasses providing desktop computing, radio communications and telephony to headquarters staff in armoured vehicles, tents and buildings; as well as providing wide area communications.

About the Regiment

16th Signal Regiment is based at Beacon Barracks, MOD Stafford and is collocated with 1st and 22nd Signal Regiments as well as an RAF Tactical Supply Wing.

As one of the five Multi-Role Signal Regiments, 16th Signal Regiment rotates through a 3-year cycle of being committed to operations, training and being held at readiness, Each year brings unique challenges. The committed year sees a large proportion of the Regiment deploy on operations world wide. The training year provides an opportunity to refresh military communication skills prior to moving into the readiness year where the Regiment is held ready to deploy in support of emerging operations.

Throughout the cycle there are opportunities for personal development through demanding technical and military courses as well as participating in sport and adventurous outdoor pursuits (known as Adventurous Training).

Support Squadron

The Support Squadron provides key specialist support to the Regiment and its Field Squadrons. The Squadron encompasses personal administration and welfare, logistics (including transport), trade and military training and second line technical support. The Support Squadron also oversees the attached Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) Light Aid Detachment and medical staff.
