21st Signal Regiment

Deliver ICS capability at readiness for contingent operations from assigned elements in support of deployed organisations and headquarters within the Land Environment in order to enable success on operations.

About the Regiment

As part of 7 Signal Group within 11 Signal and West Midlands Brigade, 21 Signal Regiment is one of five Multi Role Signal Regiments (MRSR).

The Regiment consists of three Communications Squadrons and a Support Squadron. The unit is equipped with Bowman tactical communications, Falcon wide area communications, Reacher satellite communications and various deployable operational IT systems.

The Regimental mission is to deliver ICS capability at readiness for contingent operations from assigned elements in support of deployed organisations and headquarters within the Land Environment in order to enable success on operations.

204 Sqn

The Squadron consists of three Troops – Alamein, Messina and Rhine. The Squadron predominantly holds Bowman, alongside some Reacher, Magpie and Housekeeper capability.

The Squadron mission is to deliver a close support CIS capability at readiness principally in support of the Vanguard Enabling Group in order to enable the commander to exercise command and control on operations.

Regimental History

Under Army 2020, in 2014 21st Signal Regiment lost the air support role and 244 Signal Squadron to 30 Signal Regiment. 214 Signal Squadron were resubordinated back to 2 Signal Regiment. 21 Signal Regiment became a Multi Role Signal Regiment. This process saw the formation of 204 Signal Squadron and the move of 215 Signal Squadron to Azimghur Barracks.
