31 Signal Squadron

We are a Royal Signals communications Squadron based in Uxbridge. We also have a Troop based in Coulsdon. Our role is to provide Information Communication Systems (ICS) to the Emergency Services and to the local Government in the event of an emergency.

In recent years the Brigade has been involved in the Fireman strikes (OP FRESCO), fuel strikes (OP ESCALIN) and the floods (OP PITCHPOLE) with soldiers and officers of the Squadron and Regiment being involved in a number of these.

In addition to providing communications support to emergency services, the Squadron also supports Military Operation. The Squadron has had soldiers deploy to the Middle East (OP TELIC and OP HERRICK) and many more deployments since the Gulf War.

31 (Middlesex Yeomanry and Princess Louise's Kensington) Signal Squadron is a very busy unit and constantly training for our role within the Regiment, as well as training soldiers to be able to pass their annual Military Tests. Various types of communications are central to our training but are alongside military, physical and adventure training.

There are a wide range of employments within the Squadron. As well as Royal Signals roles there are other cap badges and trades to choose from.

  • Royal Signals Communications Systems Operator - Operates communications equipment and is the primary trade, this involves the setting up and operation of radio equipment, satellite equipment and encoded messages.
  • Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) - Repairs and maintains the Squadrons fleet of vehicles and equipment.
  • Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) - Providing medical assistance on the Exercise/Operations and teaching the officers and soldiers the basics of first aid.
  • Adjutant General Corps (AGC) - Clerks providing the Human Resource administration for the Squadron.
  • Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) - Chefs catering for the Squadron on Exercise/Operations and also provide the catering at various Regimental and Squadron functions.
