“The Squadron has two troops in Birmingham, one in Coventry and one in Stafford and our role is one in support of UK Operations where we can be called upon to provide communications infrastructure in a variety of situations."

48 Signal Squadron48 Signal Squadron, within 37 Signal Regiment is located on Golden Hillock Road, a 5 min walk from Small Heath railway station in Birmingham. We also have outlying Troop locations in Coventry and Stafford (which both have individual web pages).

We are an Army Reserve Royal Signals unit and our primary role is UK Operations, where we provide communications between the Military and civilian organisations such as the Emergency Services. Examples of the type of situation we may be involved in are:

  • Natural Disasters such as flooding
  • Acts of Terrorism
  • Strikes
  • Pre-planned events such as the Commonwealth Games and the NATO summit

37 Signal Regiment has the latest Military Communication Information Systems (CIS) equipment, and you will receive full training on our hi-tech kit as well as developing your basic soldiering skills. There are many opportunities to deploy around the world to places such as Cyprus, Italy, France and Gibraltar. You will also get leadership training and experience, driver training (including basic licence acquisition) and gain qualifications which are recognised in the civilian work place.

48 Signal SquadronLike their Regular counterparts, Army Reserve Solders also get paid to undertake adventurous training activities such as skiing and sailing as well as competing in various sports. The Squadron also has a lively social calendar with a variety of activities and events throughout the year. Recruitment

We are always looking for keen, committed people who relish a challenging and rewarding environment to join us as both as Officers and as Soldiers. You don’t need any previous Signals or IT knowledge and we can provide full advice about how to build your fitness levels to those required by the Army. More information on the criteria for joining can be found on the “Joining the Army” part of the Army website.

We train on Tuesday evenings between 1930-2130 at the Army Reserve Centre *. We also train on 1-2 weekends per month and your attendance can be flexible according to your civilian commitments. We deploy on a two week training exercise as a whole Regiment once a year and previous destinations have included Germany, France and various locations in the UK. You will be paid the same daily rate as your Regular counterparts for all the training that you attend.
