Central Volunteer Headquarters Royal Signals (CVHQ)

CVHQ was formed in October 2001 to look after Royal Signals TA specialists. CVHQ Royal Signals also looks after the Royal Signals FTRS and Mobilisation effort.

81 Signal Squadron (V)

The Squadron forms part of Specialist Group Royal Signals (SGRS) and provides fixed telecoms expertise to the MoD at a variety of worldwide locations.

In recent years, this has included the Falkland Islands, Cyprus, Gibraltar and Brunei - as well as operational tours to Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

LIAG (V) Role

Land Information Assurance Group

The Land Information Assurance Group (LIAG) Royal Signals was formed in 1999 as a National Territorial Army (TA) unit which recruits its specialists from across the United Kingdom (UK) to provide the Army with an increased capability in IT security and Information Assurance.

With Headquarters at MoD Corsham, Wiltshire, LIAG officers have worked throughout the UK and deployed to Afghanistan, Ascension Island, Brunei, Canada, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, Germany, Gibraltar, Iraq, Kenya, Kosovo and the USA.

LIAG is a multi-cap-badged unit and currently has members who have served with the Royal Navy; Army units: Royal Artillery and Infantry Units and the Royal Air Force.

It also has members who work for the following organisations: Logica, CESG, Symantec, Oracle, Accenture, Fujitsu and Deutsche Bank. LIAG’s Commanding Officer oversees 50 personnel who are appointed as Staff Officers (Lt Colonels, Majors and Captains).
 
All have a Team Leader as well as personnel with the appropriate skills for that particular task:

LIAG (V) Recruiting and Application process

Recruiting

LIAG is currently recruiting technical specialists with practical experience in the following disciplines:

  • Web Application Testing 
  • Database Security Testing 
  • Security Architect 
  • Vulnerability Assessment Network Traffic Analysis 
  • Computer Forensics 
  • Firewall Testing 
  • Intrusion Detection

Application Process

If you are ready for the responsibility of becoming a Territorial Army Officer, and meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 27 to 50 (on entry to Royal Military Academy Sandhurst)
  • 2 x A Levels Grade E and above 7 x GCSEs
  • Hold British Citizenship; if a Commonwealth Citizen, 5 years residence in the UK
  • Have in excess of 5 years practical IT security experience
  • Hold a professional IT security qualification
  • Are prepared to undergo military training
  • Serve at least 19 days per year
  • Are willing to undergo Her Majesty’s Government Security Clearance
  • Are medically and physically fit

Selection Process

Suitably qualified and experienced applicants will be invited to attend a LIAG Initial Selection Board, held over a weekend at MoD Corsham. If successful, candidates will then be invited to the Army Officer Selection Board at Westbury, Wiltshire.

LICSG (V)

Land Information & Communications Services Group (Volunteers) (LICSG(V))

The LICSG is based at the Basil Hill Site, Corsham, where it can respond rapidly to tasks around the world.

LICSG is a new developing defence capability to support current and new LAN/WAN military secure infrastructures and internet technologies.

This includes management and technical support from drawing board, through implementation, to live ongoing support.

LICSG will bridge gaps in capability by bringing civilian ICS expertise to military problems supporting PJHQ and unit formations as required.

Mission
LICSG are to provide expertise in computer, software and network operations in order to assure the passage of information between deployed commanders, PJHQ and Land Component HQs across the spectrum of conflict and assist in the conduct and implementation of ICS at all levels.
