25 Engineer Regiment

Airfield Damage Repair (ADR)
25 Engineer Regiment is one of two Air Support Engineer Regiments providing direct support to the RAF, under command of 12 (Air Support) Engineer Group.
The Regiment provides an immediately deployable component, the Lead Air Support Squadron on rotation and each Field Squadron has a unique design and resource capability essential to the delivery of this role.
The Regiment works closely with RAF Expeditionary Air Wings and is mainly focused on delivering six key tasks of:
- Repairing aircraft operating surfaces.
- Fuel supply.
- Explosive storage.
- Technical accommodation.
- Domestic accommodation.
- Force protection.
The Regiment also has a reserve role to deploy in support of Land Operations, which could involve engineer tasks ranging from water supply to demolitions.
Based in Waterbeach, near Cambridge on the edge of a disused WWII airfield, which provides an excellent "back door" training area, 25 Engineer Regiment has an establishment of 511 Officers and Soldiers, formed into 3 Squadrons:
- 43 Headquarters and Support Squadron.
- 34 Field Squadron.
- 53 Field Squadron.
The Regiment and 43 Squadron recently moved from Northern Ireland, where it was based for 15 years supporting Operation BANNER. The operation came to an end in 2007 on the successful conclusion of the Northern Ireland peace process.
The two field squadrons came under command of the Regiment on 22 October 2007 and both squadrons have served on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan in recent years. In future this ‘new’ Air Support Regiment looks forward to further challenging worldwide deployments in support of Air and Land operations.
