66 Works Group RE

66 Works Group Royal Engineers (66 Wks Gp RE) formed up as part of 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group in August 2008. Its role is to deliver Infrastructure Engineering support. It supports all three services and operates throughout the battlefield. 66 Wks Gp RE makes effective use of Contractors and has a key role in winning the peace and nation building.

66 Wks Gp RE achieved its Full Operational Capability in March 2009 and immediately deployed to Afghanistan on Operation HERRICK 10.

66 Wks Gp RE consists of the following sub-units:

Wks Gp HQ, which includes engineer support and an echelon, that manages and supports the specialist teams in project and contract management.

517 and 522 Specialist Team Royal Engineers (Works) (522 STRE Wks) are civil, electrical and mechanical consultancies that can deliver technical reconnaissance and design work, project management and works contracts.

530 Specialist Team Royal Engineers (Materials) is a United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited organisation specialising in geotechnical site investigation and construction materials testing.

Force Protection Engineering Cell has focus on blast and ballistic protection within an integrated process of threat assessment and management. This is delivered through a programme of research projects and a forward-leaning consultancy to units, formations and departments.

510 Specialist Team Royal Engineers will be a new Army Reserve air support STRE formed up by 66 Wks Gp RE, from 2009, as part of the restructuring of the Army.
