Staff Corps Membership

The membership of the Staff Corps is made up mainly of chief executives directors and senior technical or operational managers of engineering, transport and logistics firms or organisations The membership of the Staff Corps is made up mainly of chief executives, directors and senior technical or operational managers of engineering, transport and logistics firms or organisations. The seniority of the membership is deliberate to give authority and weight to the advice provided.

Membership of the Staff Corps is by invitation only, new officers being nominated to maintain the base of expertise required by the Ministry of Defence. Appointments take into account not only the prospective officer's own expertise, but the expertise of the firm to which access would be provided by his/her membership of the Staff Corps. The establishment is 10 colonels, 20 lieutenant colonels and 30 majors: promotion is generally by seniority in the Staff Corps but recognises officers' status in their own businesses or professions and the extent of their involvement in Staff Corps activities.

However, through the members and their firms, a much wider range of expertise is available including all the ancillary services that are associated with these main fields of activity, e.g. concrete technology, plant and equipment, training, the supply chain etc.
