Job: Parachute Engineer

Parachute Engineer
Cpl Stevenson

"As a Para-trained Engineer, I'm attached to the infantry and support them by taking on any engineering tasks they need doing. Since passing the P Company course, I've been part of airborne units on operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Macedonia.

The training was very hard but I get a bit more respect within the Army and it makes me feel proud that I've done it."

The Role:

Parachute Engineers train and serve alongside the Air Assault Brigade and are trained to be deployed by air and land either by parachute, helicopter or aircraft. They are equipped with light engineering equipment and deliver the full range of engineering skills on the battlefield.

The Skills:

All Parachute Engineers must complete the arduous P Company training, which entitles them to wear the famous Maroon Beret. This is to test the physical fitness, determination and mental robustness of the soldier under conditions of stress, to determine whether an individual has the self-discipline and motivation required for service with Airborne Forces.

After successfully completing P Company training, you will then attend the Basic Parachute Course, which will train you in basic parachute skills. On completion of eight descents, you will qualify to wear the coveted Wings.
