Brigadier B J Le Grys MBE

Biography

From January to December 2007 Brigadier Le Grys attended the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. He assumed the appointment of Engineer-in-Chief (Army) on 18 December 2007.

Brigadier Barry Le Grys worked in the offshore oil industry before going to Sandhurst in 1979. More recently he commanded 59 Independent Commando Squadron RE and 32 Engineer Regiment.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Grys served with the UN Assistance Mission in Sierra Leone through 2001 before a short stint in the Cabinet Office prior to attending Higher Command and Staff Course in January 2002.

He assumed the appointment of Deputy Chief of Staff Headquarters 3rd (UK) Division, at the end of April 2002, on promotion to Colonel. The Headquarters deployed to Iraq in July 2003 and Colonel Le Grys found himself acting Governorate Co-ordinator in Dhi Qar Province when not establishing national and multinational arrangements.

He assumed the appointment of Chief Engineer, Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, on promotion to Brigadier in December 2003. The Headquarters focussed on its forthcoming tour as Headquarters International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

In December 2005 Brigadier Le Grys returned to Sierra Leone as Commander International Military Advisory and Training Team and the Military advisor to the Government of Sierra Leone.
