Commando Engineers

Commando Engineers, both Regular and Reserve, are an integral part of 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines.

The Role

Commando Engineers are an integral part of 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines. At high readiness, they are rapidly deployable and are trained to carry out amphibious landings and cliff assaults, as well as cold-weather, desert and jungle warfare. Since they were established in their present form in 1971, Commando Engineers have always been at the forefront of operations, providing key mobility, counter-mobility and survivability support to all the units in 3 Commando Brigade and a range of other formations and allied nations.

Commando Engineers are also deployed on humanitarian and disaster relief missions, such as the responses to Typhoon Haiyan in The Philippines and the volcanic eruption on the Caribbean island of Montserrat .

The Skills

As a Commando Engineer you will be trained to operate in any environment around the world, and you will learn the skills involved in the full spectrum of conflict. If you volunteer for Commando Training you will need to pass the All Arms Commando Course, before which you will recieve coaching and appropriate training designed to help you succeed.

Once you have passed, as a Commando-trained soldier or officer you will have the right to wear the coveted Green Beret. This prestigious award recognises those who have completed the physically and professionally demanding tests of the Commando Course, while displaying the courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness and in the face of adversity that are at the heart of Commando Spirit.
