Although only formed in 1970, the Regiment has a long and distinguished history in a number of combat service support disciplines.

It is a unit delivering unique and varied combat capabilities in support of the United Kingdom's military capability work-wide.

29 Movements Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (RCT) was formed in 1970 at Devizes in Wiltshire before moving the following year to its present home at South Cerney.

In 1976 47 Air Despatch (AD) Squadron joined the Regiment.

In 1977 the Regiment was re-titled 29 Transport and Movements Regiment RCT and two years later the Air Mounting Centre was renamed 55 Movement Control (MC) Squadron.

The Squadron's title has a deep history in Air Despatch and saw service with some distinction in Borneo.

In 1981, 59 MC Squadron was formed from a reorganisation of 50 MC Squadron and 55 MC Squadron.

Being affiliated with 3 Commando Brigade and the newly resurrected 5 Airborne Brigade, the Squadron deployed to the Falkiand Islands during Operation CORPORATE where it served with great distinction.

The Regiment also saw service during Operation GRANBY in the Gulf War in 1991.

The birth of the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) in 1993 saw the Regiment renamed as 29 Regiment RLC.
