25 Training Regiment
25 Trg Regt is predominantly based in Princess Royal Barracks (PRB), Surrey and was established in its current configuration on 1 Apr 08. It was previously structured as the singleton Phase 2 Training Support Regiment for the RLC, however, during the period Apr 08 to Nov 08 significant restructuring of the unit took place as part of a wider DCLPA initiative. Firstly, 1 x Squadron Headquarters (SHQ) and 5 of the 9 Duty of Care troops were re-subordinated to DST and DFSS, who now see all Dvr and Chef CEG Phase 2 trainees report direct from their respective Phase 1 training establishments. Secondly, all elements of Trade Wing were re-subordinated to 25 Trg Regt with PRB based Divs being subsumed within 86 and 109 Sqn and 2 Satellite Stations (Port and Maritime Training Wing (Now 73 Trg Sqn) and Defence Petroleum School) joining the Regt's Order of Battle (ORBAT). 25 Trg Regt is now OPCOM Defence Logistics School (DLS) whose Headquarters is collocated in PRB.
Further to the supervisory care responsibilities for approximately 33% (587) of the RLC's Phase 2 trainees the Regt now delivers Phase 2 and 3 trade training. The delivery of this training amounts to nearly 100 different course types with over 200 course instances per year. This generates a potential throughput of trainees of somewhere in the region of 3,000 per year. Phase 2 trainees arrive at the Regt from AFC (H), ATR(B) and ATR(W) but predominantly from ATC(P). Phase 3 trainees are predominantly from the wider RLC but also come from the All Arms, Joint, Service Specific, TA and Officer communities.
Optimising Phase 2 training and outputs is the Regt's Main Effort. As such the delivery of each individual trainee's optimum training pipeline is a key management activity. This pipeline consists of up to 6 separate course activities, depending on CEG, and is delivered by 6 different training units (25 Regt, DST(N), DST(S), ATF, AS of A and HMS Sultan) across 7 different locations (PRB, Leconfield, Kineton, Westmoors, Marchwood, Bicester and Portsmouth). Overall control of the pipeline is conducted at Regt level but sub units manage the 'training experience'. 86 Sqn are responsible for Pioneer, Postal and Courier Operator, Port Operator, Seaman Navigator, Marine, Engineer, Ammunition Technician and Movement Controller CEGs and 109 Sqn are responsible for Logistic Specialist (Supply), Royal Engineer Resource Specialist and Petroleum Operator CEGs.
The Regt is established for 140 military permanent staff (not including RLC Band and MPGS) and 71 civilian staff. The average Standing Student Population at Phase 2 is 250 with a further 200 at Phase 3. The all up Regt strength is, therefore, typically in the region of 700
