45 Close Support Squadron
On the 1 April 1914 45 Company was reformed as a mechanical transport company at Davenport. The Company moved to France at the outbreak of World War 1, where it served in many roles throughout the war.
After the armistice the Company remained in France until it was disbanded in 1921. It was re-established as an MT Coy on 1 April 1933 at Woolwich and remained there until the outbreak of World War 2.
In 1939, 45 Company RASC was formed into a motor ambulance company and served in various theatres of conflict. In 1947 the Company was disbanded until, in August 1960, 616 Company (Water Transport) based in North Wales was renumbered as 45 Company.
16 years later, 45 Squadron RCT was formed at Arborfield as a Transport Support Unit. The Squadron has now been in continuous existence since 1 May 1976. Archives show that 45 Squadron RCT had existed up to 1984.
Further information on the Squadron was lost until the formation of 2 Close Support Regiment RLC on 1 April 1993 where 45 Brigade Support Squadron RLC came into being. The Squadron remained as a Brigade Support Squadron until 1 April 1998, when the role of 45 changed to a Divisional Support Squadron.
In 2005, yet again the unit has changed its name and role. 45 Close Support Sqaudron, a sub-unit of the newly formed 2 Logistic Support Regiment RLC.
