27 Headquarters Squadron
27 Squadron can trace its history back through the RCT via the RASC and further again with strings within the ASC and the Wagon Trains of the late 19th Century. Most recently to 8 Transport Regiment, The Royal Corps of Transport where we were known as 27 WHA Sqn based in Munster. During this time the Squadron deployed to the Middle East in support of the 1st Gulf War.
Prior to 8 Tpt Regt the Squadron was 27 Transport Squadron as part of 10 Regt RCT and prior to that 27 Tpt Coy, 1 (BR) TPCOL, Royal Army Service Corps. Perhaps the most interesting link back in history is where we were 27 MT Coy, FARELF - Central Malaya where we took part in a large scale Queens Birthday parade in Kuala Lumpa.
The Most significant is the Victoria Cross awarded to Pte Farrier Murphy and the information that instigates such an amazing story. The Squadron have the honour to bear the title of 'Murphy's VC Troop'.
Pte Murphy won the Victoria Cross in the Indian Mutiny in 1858 where he successfully rescued the Adjutant and Colours of the 3rd Sikh Cavalry, this was an amazing mission made greater by the fact that he himself was badly wounded.
With present information available the Squadron can be traced listed below are the Squadrons predecessors:

1960 27 Coy Disbanded in FARELF

Currently the Squadron is tasked with providing catering and communications support to the Regiment ant to the Task Squadrons, have returned from operations in Iraq supporting 7 Armed Bde and the Regiments commitments in theatre. The Squadron can look forward to a bright and busy future keeping the values that Pte Murphy VC set in stone in 1858 at it's core.
The Squadron has recently returned from Operations in Iraq, Nov 08. Here the Squadron was tasked with providing a Force Protection Troop. This Troop provided convoy support to the Squadrons for all movement within the Area Of Operations, plus a guard force to 'Murphy Lines' Our base of Operations.
We are thankfull that during this six month deployment we did not incur any casualties within the Squadron and every one returned back to Germany safely.
