A look at the Regiment today will see that it is in excellent shape having gone through considerable change in recent years due to the introduction of new equipment and the implementation of Future Army Structures (FAS) Rebalancing. Under FAS the Regiment has been moulded to better fit its purpose and the new Regimental establishment was finally endorsed in September 2007.

In 2003 the Regiment was formally affiliated with 1 Logistic Support Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (1LSR), a regular Logistic Regiment in Germany whose mission is:

'To provide 2nd line logistic support to affiliated Artillery Regiments, Engineer Regiments and other Divisional Troops in order to sustain 1 (UK) Armoured Division'.

Since the affiliation 156 (NW) Transport Regiment RLC (V) has trained alongside 1 LSR in Germany on Annual Camp, and is fully committed to supporting them on operations in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2008. The Regiment’s Mission Statement has changed in recent years to more accurately reflect its role in the heightened tempo of operations today.

Operations & Excercise

In 1998 156 (NW) Transport Regiment RLC (V) provided a troop of over 30 soldiers for a six month tour of duty in Bosnia in support of Operation LODESTAR.

In 2002 some 85 soldiers deployed as individual reinforcements to Iraq on Operation TELIC 1.

In May 2003 a composite Squadron from the Regiment deployed with 27 Composite Logistic Regiment RLC to Iraq on Op TELIC 2 for a 6 month tour. It is an issue of great pride within the Regiment that 156 was the only RLC (Volunteer) Regiment asked to form a Squadron to support our regular counterparts in the Gulf. In total almost 200 Officers and soldiers from the Regiment were deployed.

In 2003 a troop of 20 soldiers deployed on Exercise to the Falkland Islands to act as enemy forces to test the Island’s Defence Force. The three week Exercise, which is usually undertaken by regular units was passed to 156 due to regular unit commitments in Iraq.

Since 2003 a further 147 personnel from the Regiment have deployed on operations world wide as individual augmentees to Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Canada and Cyprus.

In 2008 the Regiment is earmarked for Operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Cyprus.
