The Territorial Army is an essential part of the British Army, representing a quarter of its personnel.

It provides everyday people with the chance to do something different with their lives - an opportunity to face new challenges, develop new skills, meet new people, have lots of fun and, to top it all off, earn some extra money.

SOLDIER CAREERS

Whatever your background, there is an opportunity for you in the TA. A career in the TA can be as rewarding and exciting as that of the regular Army.

Life in the TA can be tough, but if you're up to the challenge, we'll give you every opportunity to develop yourself both physically and mentally.

The initial stages are very similar to applying for a new job. Firstly you need to find a suitable Squadron, one that is close to you.

Next there's some paperwork to complete and then you will be interviewed. After the interview process you will be given an initial written entrance test.

Once a potential volunteer has passed both the interview and written test he or she will be invited to attend a selection weekend.

If you are unsure about whether or not you are eligible, you should contact your local Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for advice. The minimum age limit for entry as a TA soldier is 17 ½ years and the upper age limit is normally 43 years.

OFFICER CAREERS

Whatever your background, depending on aptitude, you could join the TA's officer training programme.

To identify and train leaders of the highest calibre the TA operates a rigorous officer selection programme.

Holding a commission in the TA is tough but, if you're up to the challenge, we'll give you every possible opportunity to develop your analytical, management and leadership skills.

A number of interviews will be conducted at your preferred unit , this is to initially identify your suitability in that unit and identify mutual goals.
