Skills taught: To prepare the best possible food in any circumstances. You'll have the opportunity to learn to cook anywhere in the world, in any situation, for anyone: from kings and queens to the newest of recruits and have a great career should you choose to leave.

RLC chefs are soldiers, trained to deliver the very best food available, in all conditions. You could find yourself at a smart reception in central London catering for very important people (VIPs), dishing up hundreds of delicious meals to your mates and fellow soldiers, or cooking outdoors using an improvised kitchen that you have built from scratch.

On exercise up a snowy mountain in Norway, in the jungle, under canvas, or in a specialist cordon blur kitchen - you will be trained in all areas of catering, an investment for life.

You'll need to be very organised, with a steady nerve - food is crucial for morale and keeping the army going. We'll train you to be a soldier and we'll teach you the wide range of skills you need, from food safety and nutrition to using your resources to deliver on time.

You need to be adaptable, because one day you might be in a well-equipped, well-stocked kitchen, and the next you'll be anywhere in the world in a hastily set-up field kitchen with only emergency rations - and a bunch of your hungry mates depending on you.

Longer term you will be trained in all aspects of catering management, opening up opportunities and a world of excitement.
