Travel and adventure

Skills taught: You'll learn to act as a helmsman and to be familiar with a wide range of craft. As you progress you'll learn navigation skills and even qualify to skipper your own boat. You'll also be trained to the highest standards of waterborne logistic management. There's plenty of travel and adventure.
The Army moves a lot of its equipment by sea, much of it on specialised landing craft. As a trained soldier Mariner you'll be responsible for the safety and security of all cargo, staying on board with it at all times and travelling all over the world to deliver it to everywhere from ports and beaches to other boats.
You'll also do a variety of other water-based jobs, from being the ship's lookout to acting as the helmsman, and because the type of ship will depend on the destination, you'll learn to be familiar with a wide range of craft. Also, as you progress you'll learn navigation skills and even qualify to skipper your own boat.
