The elements of training provided by the REME are designed to supplement Army training in order to prepare you for the appointments that you will undertake throughout your career.
All the training you receive provides a firm foundation for career development and provide you with a enviable set of skills should you choose to leave the Army.
Initial Training
Initial Training consists of Military and Leadership training which takes place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the REME Platoon Commanders course.

Sandhurst is a 44 week long military and leadership development course attended by all Army Officers. In addition to military skills you will learn a range of management and communication skills in order to allow you to develop you own leadership style.
REME Platoon Commanders Course
The REME Platoon commanders course is eight weeks long and is designed to take the generic skills learnt at Sandhurst and adapt them to the needs of a REME Officer. The Introductory Phase in Arborfield and covers the organisation, doctrine and procedures of the Corps.
The Engineering Phase is split between Arborfield and Bordon. This phase covers the practical application of engineering techniques in the military and includes familiarisation on a wide range of equipment. During this phase officers qualify as an armoured vehicle commander.
Further Training
Subsequent training is designed to prepare you for future appointments, this will normally take place just before you move to a new post. There is also time to attend military courses and to gain adventure training qualifications.
Aeronautical Engineering Course
Officers with any degree who wish to work within the Army Aviation field are required to complete an Aeronautical Engineering Course. This intensive sixth month course qualifies officers as Aircraft Engineering Officers. Following the course you would be posted to either a workshop in an Army Air Corps Regiment or to 7 Air Assault Battalion REME.
Industrial Attachment
After 3 years service you will be sent on a 3 month attachment to civilian industry, in order to broaden your design skills and commercial awareness. All the training you receive and experience you gain is accredited by the Institution of Electrical Engineers, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and the Royal Aeronautical Society. Although not compulsory REME Officers are expected to become chartered engineers within 5-7 years as part of their normal career path. This will stand you in good stead whether you decide to have a full career in REME or leave to find civilian employment.
Junior Officers Equipment Support (JOES) course
The JOES course is a continuation of the specific-to-arm training you receive during your RPCC course. The intent is to look at the issues driving equipment support within the army from the next level up i.e. a junior Captain appointment. Successful completion of the course will qualify you as a Competent Engineering Officer and open the way to a senior platoon command posting.
